There I was, enjoying the vibrancy of becoming 50 and then a youthful 50-something, when I began experiencing an aversion to aging. My dread deepened and continued for years. Ultimately, I transformed my negative mind set by learning to appreciate the natural cycles of life’s seasons and by writing Harvest the Bounty of Your Career. Harvest is a book for those who wish to distill the gifts of work in the first half of life in preparation for cultivating a new season of life.

I have now been a librarian at the University of Colorado at Boulder for 33 years. In my current position as Planning and Promotions Librarian, I create pride of place through displays, exhibits, art shows, and events. In my career I have authored chapters, papers, and articles as well as my first book, Process and Politics in Library Research, a pioneering effort in the application of critical thinking, active learning, and feminist principles to the college research course. I have presented talks and workshops at conferences and universities nationally, as well as a variety of programs for educators and women’s groups.

Certified to teach PhotoReading and accelerated learning, I founded MetaLearning in January 1996 to offer interactive workshops on reading and information management, presentation skills, and training methods. I co-founded Over the Moon Ovations in January 2008 as a monthly gathering for women in the second half of life to share their passions, creativity, and wisdom; and it continues to be sponsored by the Boulder [CO] Public Library as Moonscapes.

Now 64, I am enjoying a shift in my status at the library to half time, even as I look forward to transitioning to a next season at just the right time. Meanwhile, what interest me are the cycles and spirals of life. The seasons of a life, the seasons that undulate throughout every season of our life, and how we can more deliberately and meaningfully shape our life experiences. Inspired by the inner life, I seek portals to insights that allow wonder and meaning to surface.
